Proposed Sg Pasi project to boost economic growth

SARIKEI: The proposed construction of a road and bridge from Sungai Pasi to Tanjung Manis-Sibu road is expected to boost economic growth for Sarikei and Bintangor.

Repok  assemblyman  Datuk  Seri Huang  Tiong Sii said the proposed project, which was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during a Sejiwa Senada Programme in Bintangor last year, would become a reality soon as the project had been awarded to a contractor.

He said construction is expected to start after the ground breaking ceremony, which would likely be held early next month.

Huang said this during Sarikei District Council’s (SDC) Appreciation Dinner 2018 on Wednesday.

He commended SDC staff and councillors for playing their part in the successful implementation of Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) worth RM5 million last year.

Huang also called on locals to work together to develop Sarikei.

“I like Sarikei very much and I have always made it a point to contribute to the community such as in the form of donations to schools and associations. As an elected representative, I help to request for a fair share of development from the state government,” he said.

SDC chairman Wong Zee Yeng congratulated the staff and councillors for their excellent performance last year, which was reflected by the Chief Minister’s Environamental Award (2017/2018) – Gold Award (Local Authority category), 5-Star Financial Management award, and 4-Star Local Authority Award.
