Sarikei Division is the 6th Division in Sarawak and was formed on 2nd April 1973. Sarikei Division includes the Districts of Sarikei, Meradong, Julau and Pakan. Located on Rajang River, the capital of Sarikei is Sarikei Town which can be accessed by the road, sea and river. Agriculture is the main economic activity of the Division and the locals are more involved in farming of commoditiees, fruits and vegetables. Sarikei's real Claim to fame is its importance as an agriculture centre, more than 80% of Sarawak's pepper production comes from Sarikei Division.
